Bear Grylls Adventure Centre Birmingham Pre-Opening Quick Look

A Quick Look at the new Bear Grylls Adventure Centre, NEC, Birmingham

I’ve just returned from watching the latest Mission Impossible film at the NEC in Birmingham, but whilst I was there I headed over to the brand new Bear Grylls Adventure Centre.  It’s due to open on Wednesday 12th September 2018 and it looks amazing!

Here are a few photos, a short vlog, plus information about the attraction. As always, let’s start with the basics.

What is it?

From the official website (link at end of blog):

“The Home of Earth’s greatest adventure challenges opens its doors on the 12th September.  Test your limits as you take on some of the world’s most incredible mental and physical challenges inspired by Bear’s love of adventure. We’ll get you geared up and ready to climb, dive, fly, zip, leap, scramble and explore.

Escape the ordinary and push yourself to achieve the remarkable at The Bear Grylls Adventure.”

There are a number of different activities that you can do at the centre. Firstly there is the Base Camp – this comprises a Breakout Escape Room, Archery, a Survival Maze and an Assault Course.

There are then additional activities that you can bolt onto your Base Camp:

Zip Line from a Chinook and Aerial Ropes Course;

Deep Sea Diving / Snorkelling;

Rock Climbing; and

Sky Diving.

It’s sounds amazing and I can’t wait for it to open!

Dad's Verdict

Although it hasn't opened yet it looks amazing. Merlin are behind this so you can expect the high quality and immersive theming that you would normally expect at Alton Towers or Thorpe Park. The prices appear to range from £20 for the Basecamp activities and then you can bolt on additional activities - for instance the climbing is £35 (including Basecamp) and the sky diving is £65 (including Basecamp).

It doesn't look like a cheap day out - but it's probably in-line with other adventure and adrenaline activities. The Basecamp fee seems to be pretty good value as you get four activities each lasting nearly 30min.

How to get there

The postcode for the Resort World car park that I used today was B40 1PU
